Ivy Lu on Leaving Google to Build Rivos’ Supply Chain from Scratch
As Rivos’ Global Supply Chain Manager based in Taiwan, Ivy Lu is the bridge between the company’s engineers and its suppliers.
Her responsibilities span sourcing and supply chain management, including developing supplier and commodity strategies, selecting the right partners to meet technical requirements, negotiating commercial terms, and securing capacity and resources. Ivy evaluates which suppliers offer the best combination of capability, price, and long-term support. “As the link between our engineers and suppliers, I combine visibility into project schedules with technical understanding of chip status,” Ivy said. “This enables me to strategically align the right supplier resources to meet our product specifications and market timelines.”
Before joining Rivos in March 2025, Ivy spent over 20 years in sourcing and global supply chain roles. She served as a Senior Sourcing Manager at Google in the custom silicon sourcing and data center commodities teams for over eight years. There, she oversaw both customized silicon and off the shelf commodities strategies to build up appropriate partners and support Google’s product launch. She worked at Qualcomm earlier in her career, overseeing outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing houses for custom silicon production.
Her first introduction to Rivos came while she was still at Google. Part of her job involved scouting potential suppliers for next-generation technology, and Rivos landed on her watch list. “I followed the company’s progress for a while and heard its founders from Google had great reputations,” she recalled. “I had confidence in Rivos so when the opportunity came to join, I had to take it.”
Leaving the stability of a large company was a big decision, but Ivy thrives on challenges. “At Rivos, we have to do big things with a small team,” she shared. “We make sure people are connected at every step, and while that’s challenging, it also gives me the full picture.” She describes Rivos’ culture as highly collaborative, with everyone working toward the same goal.
When Ivy isn’t overseeing Rivos’ supply chain, she loves to travel. “I used to travel to see all the tourist attractions, but now travel for me is more about slowing down, enjoying good food, and experiencing life there without a fixed schedule,” she shared.
