After Leading at Broadcom and ARM, Tim Ramsdale Decided to Start Building From Scratch

After climbing the ranks at some of the world’s biggest chip companies, Tim Ramsdale decided it was time to build from the bottom.

Tim is General Manager for Rivos in the UK and a key member of the commercial team. His role spans everything from customer engagement and closing deals to managing HR, recruiting, and finance for the UK office. 

Before Rivos, Tim built an impressive career in engineering leadership. He began as an engineer at various companies before joining Broadcom in 2004, where he worked his way up to Vice President of Engineering and led large-scale development efforts. After spending a decade at Broadcom, Tim left to join ARM in 2014. As Vice President of Engineering and later General Manager of the Imaging and Vision team, he helped lead GPU development and built advanced imaging products. 

But after spending the majority of his career in large, established companies, Tim felt it was time for a change. “Small companies are much more dynamic,” he shared. “As an individual, you can have a massive influence on the overall company.” That mindset led Tim to Agile Analog, a startup shaping the future of analog IP, where he spent four years as CEO.

At the end of 2021, Tim hit pause on his professional journey to be a full-time Dad to his two children. When he was ready to return to work, he explored various opportunities but was only interested in what he found at Rivos. “When I spoke with the leadership team at Rivos, I was really impressed,” he explained. “I was inspired by what they had achieved already and their vision for what they were building.”

Since joining in March 2022, Tim has been consistently energized by both the mission and the team. “What we’re building is phenomenal,” he shared. “I’m constantly overwhelmed by how amazing the team is and what they’ve built.” He also appreciates the transparency of Rivos’ leadership team and how people are always happy to help, no matter the task.

Outside of work, Tim leads a very different kind of team. He’s a scout leader certified in kayaking, climbing, archery, sailing, and axe throwing. He also happens to hold a helicopter pilot license. Above all, Tim treasures time with his family.
